What’s Going on in Canada’s North? Documentary & Guest Speaker

AngusDo you want to listen and meet an influential player in Canada’s government speaking on behalf of Aboriginal communities? Do you want to get a send of how mental health issues manifest themselves in northern and remote first nation reserves? Then come two our next two events:

Charlie Angus, MP of Timmins – James Bay will be joining us Tuesday, January 27th at 12:30 PM at RGN 2021.

He is an exceptionally gifted speaker, passionate and inspiring. He is the spokesman for Ethics, Privacy, Access to Information and Government Accountability for the Federal New Democratic Party. Also voted top three most influential Canadians over 45 years in 2012 by Zoomer magazine. He was born in Timmins, ON and has strong opinions on the current state of affairs in rural and remote first nation reserves. His last talk was on mental health and suicide. This overlaps very well with the 2nd year Psychiatry unit.

In preparation for his visit, we will be showing an hour-long documentary called 3rd World Canada directed by Andrée Cazabon; a film depicting Canada’s forgotten north Friday, January 23rd at 12:30 PM in RGN 2022. The film follows family and community members of a fly-in reserve in northern Ontario as they come together to raise 9 orphans following the suicide of both parents.

We will get catering for the Angus talk and therefore we will need you to RSVP by this Friday, January 16th.

Contact us if you desire more details.

Have a great week!
